J.D. Salinger, 1919-2010

 
 
It's really too bad that so much crumby stuff is a lot of fun sometimes.  -J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye, Chapter 9

Today the whole world remembers J.D. Salinger and his famous protagonist, Holden Caulfield. I've probably read The Catcher in the Rye through during at least 3 different times in my life. I remember it always resonating in a slightly different way. I think I might be due for another reading.

Which cover do you have? I have the solid red in the top right photo... I think it originally belonged to my dad, and it is totally beat up (read: well-loved) just like the one shown here. Do you have a favorite? See a complete archive of covers here.

I love J.D. Salinger's books so much, especially Franny & Zooey. A couple of years ago I actually decided to re-design his book covers just as a personal project. His characters are always smoking so I took some cues from cigarette packaging:

just reread this masterpiece this past month and loved it with a depth and understanding not possible when i last read it (in high school). i highly recommend you read it again.
