Raw Edges

The above parquet floor installation was created by Yael Mer & Shay Alkalay, the duo behind Raw-Edges Design Studio. The floor design is meant to resemble a woven rug, exploring the relationship of flooring to textiles. It takes the notion of a rug and applies it to the floor itself, rendering the rug unnecessary. 

Can you believe each "tile" is hand stained? I love this process photo. It looks like a wacky science experiment.

Aptly titled "Wall to Wall," the installation was housed by British design company Established and Sons as part of Design Miami/Basel 2009.
